Chemical Market Reporter, February, 1999

RHODIA INC. has sold its North American textile chemicals business to Abco Industries Inc. and Eastman Chemical Canada Inc., both subsidiaries of Eastman Chemical Company. Terms of the deal were nor disclosed.

The transaction involves Rhodia's textile chemicals operations in North America, including technology, customer lists and the leasing of office and laboratory space in Lawrenceville, Ga. All of the business' 22 staffers have been offered employment by the unit's new owners.

"The North American textile chemicals business did not have the critical mass to be a core activity for Rhodia," explains the company's vice-president Jack Urick.
