Rhodia Expects Strong Results Throughout '99.

Management is confident the company will overcome global economic challenges. RHODIA EXPECTS a substantial increase in profits in 1999 despite predicting continued tough market conditions in the early part of the year that may not improve until the second half. The company's specialty chemicals businesses will benefit from lower raw material prices as well as cost-cutting measures and internal restructuring.

"Last year was a difficult period and there have been difficulties at the start of 1999 which we will probably continue to experience in the whole first half;" Jean-Pierre Tirouflet, Rhodia's chairman and CEO, told a Paris press conference last week. "In the second half, we expect to be much more active and should get much better results." ...
