Dow Executive Urges Industry To Focus on the Environment.

CHEMICAL ENGINEERS are urged to have "360-degree vision," focusing on environmental and social needs as well as the economic picture. This is the message from Lawrence J. Washington, Jr., Dow Chemical Company's vice-president of environment, health and safety, human resources and public affairs.

Mr. Washington, speaking before a recent Houston meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, encouraged his audience to develop broad capabilities to conduct business in the future. He says that engineers' expertise in chemistry must be combined with social responsibility and accountability, as well as attention to environmental improvement.
