Cardinal Health Buys Alcon Site Boosting Finished Drug Manufacture.

CARDINAL HEALTH INC., a new player in the contract manufacturing of finished drugs, has significantly expanded its capabilities by acquiring a major manufacturing center from the Alcon group. The facility, located in Humacao, Puerto Rico, employs a staff of 300 to manufacture ophthalmic solutions and suspensions, viscoelastic products, ointments and enzymatic tablets.

Alcon, a subsidiary of Nestle SA, will continue to operate the facility through December 15, 2000. Until then, Cardinal will work with drug companies to bring new business to the facility, which will be used to produce a range of drug therapies in oral liquid, injectable, cream and solid dosage forms.
