Prices Rise for ABS and Other Styrenic Resins.

Producers attribute the increases to higher costs for essential raw materials. PRODUCERS OF acrylonitrile styrene butadiene (ABS) and other styrene resins are making their first attempt to raise prices in more than two years. They are trying to recover from the gradual decline in pricing that has occurred during the last four years.

Suppliers note that prices for raw materials are rising, putting additional pressure on margins. The prices of many other plastic materials that use styrene as a feedstock, such as unsaturated polyester and polystyrene, have also gone up this year--in part, to pass along added costs. Earlier this month, Bayer Corporation led the increase with a 7 cent initiative in ABS and a 5 cent hike for styrene acrylonitrile...
