Cyclohexane Stays Strong Led by Nylon.(new cyclohexane plants in Texas and Saudi Arabia)

Producers add two grassroots facilities this year and keep pace with demand. AFTER SEVERAL YEARS of industry debottlenecking and incremental expansions, two grassroots cyclohexane plants are coming on stream this year. Mobil Chemical Company brought on 65 million gallons per year of cyclohexane capacity at its Beaumont, Tex., site in July, and Chevron Chemical Company will bring up: a 75-million-gallon-per-year cyclohexane unit at its aromatics complex in Saudi Arabia during the fourth quarter.

Mobil's project, which included an upgrade of the Beaumont complex's supplies of benzene and hydrogen, doubled its global; cyclohexane nameplate to 130 million gallons, making it the third largest producer after Phillips Chemicals and Huntsman. The company's...
