OSHA Urged to Revise Exposure Limits to Air Contaminants.(Brief Article)

CHEMICAL MANUFACTURERS are urging Occupational Safety and Health Administration to move forward on an industry proposal to create an advisory panel to help the agency revise hundreds of workplace air contaminant exposure limits. The agency has been grappling with its air contaminants standard since 1992, when a US court of appeals rejected OSHA's final rule updating permissible exposure limits (PELs) for 428 substances.

The current air contaminants standard dates back to 1971. Under a plan proposed by a range of industry trade groups in January, OSHA would create an advisory committee of labor unions, industry and government representatives.
