PROCTER & GAMBLE Co. Inc.--Lawyers for International Fabricare Institute (IFI) have filed a letter with the Federal Trade Commission's Division of Advertising Practices accusing Procter & Gamble of false and deceptive claims regarding its Dryel Product for the home care of dry-clean-only garments.

The product has been the target of an ongoing evaluation by IFI. The trade group, which represents professional dry cleaners and launders, take exception to the company ad campaign, which it claims advises consumers to disregard dry-clean-only label instructions. P&G promotions declare for instance, that "Suddenly, dry-clean only...isn't." IFI maintains that Dryel is not an effective substitute for professional dry cleaning.
