RHODIA'S OPERATING profit rose 22.5 percent to [epsilon]4O9 million ($413 million) last year, primarily because of strong performances by its polyamide and industrial specialties businesses. The company's net profit went up 96 percent to [epsilon]227 million, well above its target of a 75 percent increase set early last year.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) as a percentage of sales rose from 13.6 percent to 15.1 percent. The company's sales were static at [epsilon]5.5 billion, although their volume went up 2 percent.
