EPA Shuts Website Access Temporarily Because of Information Security Concerns.(Environmental Protection Agency)(Brief Article)

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Agency has temporarily halted public access to its Internet Website after congressional investigators found that the agency lacks adequate security to protect sensitive and confidential information on its computer systems. EPA says the site, accessed millions of times each month, will be down for a week or two while additional security measures are installed "as part of ongoing efforts to prevent computer hacking." The decision to temporarily suspend access was made after a February 16 meeting "in which computer security experts warned that the public attention brought to the agency's potential computer vulnerabilities made EPA a likely target for hackers," the agency says.
