TETJIN LTD. And E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. launched a global joint venture last January for the production of polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene naphthalate polyester film. The JV began with an annual capacity of 3000,000 tons and combined annual sales of [yen]160 billion ($1.4 billion).

As a part of this newly consolidated film partnership, Teijin's turnover will be raised by [yen]70 billion. For polyester fiber, Teijin has capacity of 600,000 tons in Japan, Thailand and Indonesia. To enter the Nafta market, the company also invested in Alpek, in Mexico, last April, under the name Akra Teijin. Akra Teijin and DuPont are in North America for textile filaments. The capacity of the joint ventures in North America is 400,000 tons per year.
