Aventis Forms Crop Alliance With Rhodia and Oil Seed Makers.(Brief Article)

Novance will develop crops for industrial uses. AVENTIS Is teaming up with Rhodia and French oil seed producers to form a partnership to develop industrial crops. The company, which was created late last year through the merger of Rhone-Poulenc and Hoechst, is acquiring, through its Aventis CropScience subsidiary, a stake in Novance, Oise, France, which develops and supplies vegetable-based oils for industrial purposes.

Aventis and Rhodia will each own 25 percent of Novance, and the remainder will be held by Sofiproteol, the financial arm of the French oil seed producers association. Through an alliance with Eridania Beghin Say, Montedison's agribusiness operation, Sofiproteol controls 75 percent of French oilseed crushing and refining capacity....
