E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. has selected DuPont Sorona as the brand name for its newest polymer platform, which is based on 3GT technology. 3GT is the generic name for a family of polymers based on 1,3 propanediol.

DuPont says it will work with a limited number of partners to implement the technology to manufacture fibers from Sorona. Agreements are already in place with DuPont's Dacron polyester business in North America, DuPont SA in Europe, Saehan Industries in South Korea, and Teijin Ltd. and Toray Industries Inc. in Japan.

By October, DuPont expects to have a commercial Sorona plant in operation at its site in Kinston, N.C. The unit's initial capacity will be 12,000 tons per year, and it will have the ability to be expanded to 50,000...
