House Committee Calls for Review Of FDA's Computer Security Practices.(Brief Article)

AFTER INVESTIGATORS found "serious and pervasive problems" in the Environmental Protection Agency's computer systems, a House committee chairman launched a review of the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) information policies and practices. Rep. Thomas Bliley (R-Va.), chairman of the House Commerce Committee, says he has asked the FDA to provide his committee with records detailing the agency's computer security practices and any hacker attacks.

He says the panel is reviewing the computer security policies and programs of certain federal agencies within its jurisdiction. Last month, Rep. Bliley asked the General Accounting Office (GAO)--the investigative arm of Congress--to conduct an audit of the Commerce Department's cyber security program. ...
