Producers struggle to raise prices to counter a runup in raw material costs. DESPITE PRESSURE from surging raw material costs, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene producers remain upbeat. Demand has improved, leading to a more balanced market. In response to soaring raw material costs, several producers have recently launched price increases.

In July, BASF announced a [epsilon]0.2-per-kilogram increase for its ABS and SAN resins. Last month, Dow Chemical Company called for an 8-cent-per-pound increase for its Magnum ABS resin, effective September 15. Dow attributes that increase to a surge in feedstock costs, especially for butadiene.
