Chevron Phillips Adds Polymers.(Brief Article)

Chemical Market Reporter, December, 2000

CHEVRON PHILLIPS Chemical Company plans to break ground by year-end for a $23 million, 10-million-pound-per-year olefinic specialty polymers plant at its Orange, Tex., complex. Startup is expected in the middle of next summer. The new polymer, developed in part by the company's Orange research laboratory, is designed to absorb oxygen inside packaging, preserving freshness and lengthening the shelf life of foods, beverages and other products.

Target markets include food and beverage packages. Other applications may include electronics and medical packaging--any uses for which a low oxygen environment is beneficial.
