Schering-Plough Sues Impax Over Generic Claritin.(Impax Laboratories, patent infringement)(Brief Article)

SCHERING-PLOUGH Corporation has filed a lawsuit against Impax Laboratories in federal district court alleging patent infringement related to Impax's filing of an abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for a generic version of Claritin-D-24-Hour (loratadine/pseudoephedrine) extended release tablets.

Schering-Plough markets the Claritin product for the relief of symptons of seasonal allergic rhinitis. US sales of this product were roughly $400 million during the 12-month period ending September 30, 2000. In November, the Food and Drug Administration accepted the company's filing of the ANDA for a generic version of the Claritin product.
