ACC Promises Aggressive Campaign For Class Action Reform Legislation.(American Chemistry Council wants most state class action suits handled in federal courts)

THE AMERICAN Chemistry Council (ACC) and other business groups plan to mount an aggressive campaign this year to enact legislation that would transfer most state class action lawsuits to federal courts, a senior industry official told CMR last week. The US House of Representatives narrowly passed a class action reform bill in September 1999,222-207, and a companion measure cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee, 11-7, last June.

However, facing a certain filibuster on the Senate floor by Democratic opponents and a veto threat by former President Bill Clinton, the legislation failed to become law.
