Grace Buys Silicas.(W.R. Grace and Co. acquires Akzo-PQ Silica)(Brief Article)

W.R. GRACE & Co., through its German subsidiary Grace Holding GmbH, has acquired the precipitated silicas business of Akzo-PQ Silica. Akzo-PQ Silica was a joint venture between Akzo Nobel and PQ Corporation and had 2000 revenues of $25 million. The acquisition will be integrated into W.R.

Grace's Davison silica products business. "The acquisition of this business enhances our established presence in Europe, which includes a direct sales force, marketing, and global R&D center," says Robin Pierce, managing director, Grace Holding GmbH. The acquired business supplies the European region with precipitated silicas used as an additive in paints, paper and rubber compounds.
