A major environmental group objects to comments made over chemical testing. THE AMERICAN CHEMISTRY COUNCIL (ACC) last week "clarified" claims made by a high ranking industry official following the recent Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) documentary "Trade Secrets" that industrial chemicals have been "carefully scrutinized" for safety.

Environmental Defense (ED), a major environmental group which is working with the ACC on a program to test high production volume (HPV) chemicals, criticized the remark, calling it inaccurate.
