THE ENVIRONMENTAL Protection Agency (EPA) last week requested nominations for a more balanced federal advisory committee on testing industrial chemicals and pesticides for possible endocrine disruption. In a Federal Register notice, EPA said it was establishing a new committee to advise the agency as it continues to validate screens and assays designed to determine whether chemicals or pesticides disrupt the functioning of the endocrine system.

EPA said the panel will reflect a balance among the agrochemical and commodity chemical industries, environmental and public interest organizations, animal welfare groups, federal, state and local governments and academia.
