ARCHER DANIELS Midland Company has formed a joint venture with the Kao Corp. of Japan to manufacture and market diacyiglycerol (DAG) oil in North and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The new joint venture, to be called ADM Kao LLC, will be headquartered in Decatur, Ill. ADM Kao will construct a pilot plant, which is expected to be operational by November.
Developed by Kao, DAG oil has been shown in several clinical studies in Japan to assist substantially in lowering body-fat content. Protected by several patents, DAG oil is produced from vegetable oil by a process that substantially increases the diacyiglycerol content of the oil.
