DOW BIOPHARMACEUTICAL Contract Manufacturing Services received zoning approval last Wednesday for the construction of a 43,000-square-foot laboratory and process development facility. To be located at BCMS's Smithfield, R.I., site, it will be the first major capital investment for the business unit since it acquired The Collaborative Group's biotechnology services division in November.

"The laboratory is in the first phase," says Caroline Fritz, global business director for Dow's biotechnology business platform.
