Class Action Reform Imminent.(Brief Article)

INDUSTRY-BACKED legislation to reform the class action lawsuit system will be introduced in the Senate before lawmakers begin a month-long recess on August 6, sources told CMR last week. Although not announced by the principal sponsors--Sens. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah)--the bill's introduction is imminent, sources say.

Similar legislation that would transfer most class actions from state courts to federal courts was introduced in the House of Representatives earlier in the year by Reps. Rick Boucher (D-Va.), Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.).
