Chemical Market Reporter, October, 2001

Honeywell International Inc.'s specialty materials business is expanding production of its Spectra-brand high modulus polyethylene fiber (HMPE) in two phases to support demand increases for Spectra fiber and Spectra shield composites. The Phase I investment of around $20 million will include the installation of a new gel-spinning line and additional drawing capacity at the company's facility in Colonial Heights, Va.

The additional capacity is expected to be available by the end of the third quarter of 2002. Phase II of the expansion will include the construction of a new HMPE plant. The new plant's location, yet to be selected, will be designed with state-of-the-art processing technology.
