Great Lakes Chemical to post first underlying quarterly loss in its history. Joseph Chang reports. THE END OF warnings season and the beginning of the third quarter earnings period has already cast a dark shadow on the fourth quarter and early 2002. In what is shaping up to be one of the worst years in history for the industry, even the specialty chemicals sector, which has traditionally been able to maintain profitability in recessionary times, will see certain companies post losses in the third quarter.
