refinery and a neighboring BP Chemicals facility allegedly released dangerous quantities of the chemical into the air, according to a Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) study. At the meeting, TNRCC Executive Director Jeff Saitas said there are areas where the amount of benzene is higher than it should be, but there is no reason to consider Texas City unsafe.
