THREE EXPLOSIONS and a fire lasting several hours lit up the evening sky on November 23 at the 100,000 barrel-per-day Pasadena refinery of Crown Central Petroleum Corp. The blasts, said to have originated at a liquefied petroleum gas unit, were felt up to six miles away.
One worker suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a nearby hospital. Crown executive vice-president Randy Trembly reports that the 155 company employees and contract maintenance workers on site were accounted for. Portions of the plant went back on stream last week. The company has not yet determined the amount of damages caused by the fire.
