Crown Mishap. (Houston Roundup).(Crown Central Petroleum Corp. accident leaves six injured)(Brief Article)

Chemical Market Reporter, December, 2001

CROWN MISHAP Six workers went to hospitals for observation December 4 when an operator at the Crown Central refinery in Pasadena opened a valve releasing a mixture of petroleum and hydrofluoric acid. One was treated and released the same evening and the other five were released after being held overnight for observation.

The incident follows on the heels of a November 23 explosion and fire that knocked out the LPG unit of the refinery (CMR, 12/3/01, page 4). Occupational Safety & Health Administration is investigating that incident as well as the December 4 release. Crown has been fined 22 times since 1998 by Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission.
