The OECD unemployment rate on a standardized basis was 6.8 percent in October, 0.2 percent higher than September and 0.5 percent higher than a year earlier, based on estimates from 25 OECD member countries. The unemployment rate rose to 5.4 percent in the US, 5.4 percent in Japan, 3.8 percent in Korea, 8.7 percent in France, 8 percent in Germany and 5.1 percent in Sweden, according to the OECD.

Unemployment remained stable in Denmark (4.4 percent), Finland (9.1 percent), Luxembourg (2.5 percent) and Spain (12.9 percent). The unemployment rate fell 4.3 percent in Portugal.
