Rhodia Consolidates Fibers. (Plastics & Coatings in Brief).(Brief Article)

RHODIA has created a new subsidiary, Rhodia Technical Fibers, from the merger of its industrial yarns and performance fibers businesses. The new enterprise will be headed by Laurent Schmitt, who was previously the general manager of the mass-market rolled products division of Pechniney. Rhodia says the merger of the two businesses will address closely related strategic issues and satisfy the need for critical mass.

Net sales of the combined businesses, including the Brazilian fibers units, are more than [euro]500 million. The Brazilian businesses will be integrated into the new business in January 2002.
