THE PHARMACEUTICALS industry plans to step up its campaign to win congressional approval of a prescription drug benefit for the nation's senior citizens, a top industry official said last week. "As we continue to bring newer and better medicines to patients, it underscores the need to enact a prescription drug benefit for America's seniors this year," said Alan Holmer, president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

"It can be done, it should be done. It's the number one priority for the industry this year," he declared at a Washington, D.C., news conference.
