CONSTRUCTION OF Conoco Inc.'s $125 million new technology carbon fibers production facility in Ponca City, Okla., is complete, and the 1,800 metric-ton-per-year plant is in final commissioning stages. The facility is readily expandable to 3,600 metric tons, says the company. While the new plant has yet to produce carbon fiber, it has produced pitch as part of the staged process toward carbon fiber production, says an official with the Cevolution carbon fiber unit.
