GLAXOSMITHKLINE PLC (GSK) and Biota Holdings Ltd. have finalized a license agreement aimed at developing new drugs for the $2 billion hepatitis C market. For GSK, the deal comes on the heels of a $10 million pact with Gilead Sciences Inc. for hepatitis B drug adefovir dipivoxil, expected to launch in the US by year-end.

Biota's US subsidiary Biota Inc. will receive $3.5 million in payments from GSK over the next two years, as well as milestone payments and royalties on compounds that reach the market.
