APAG, the European oleochemicals and allied products group, is urging the European Commission (EC) to review its proposals on the reduction of excise rates on biofuels and the compulsory use of biofuel in transportation. The group, representing 36 European producers and suppliers of fatty acids, glycerine, alcohols, metallic soaps and fatty nitrile and derivatives, says the proposal will seriously distort oleochemicals trade, as subsidized production of biodiesel will generate large quantities of the by-product glycerine.
