BASF IS INVESTTNG in Teco Optronics Corp., part of the Taiwanese electronics and electrical Teco Group, to give itself an opening into the materials market for organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays. OLEDs are considered a potentially cheaper and more efficient alternative to liquid crystals because they are less expensive to produce and, without the need for background illumination, consume less energy.

They also have a wider viewing angle and a clearer image. BASF is acquiring a minority stake in Teco Optronics, the size of which is not being revealed.
