Outsourcing of all forms is poised to command a greater portion of IT budgets as business and IT managers look to reduce costs and service providers offer improved efficiencies and better services, according to a new report by Aberdeen Group. The report found that roughly 74 percent of respondents spent 1 to 10 percent of their IT budgets on outsourcing while the average for all survey respondents was 9.4 percent.

Aberdeen expects this percentage to increase in the coming years as operational functions become more routine and automated and service providers offer higher service levels. The report found that the most popular business process outsourced was help desk (30 percent of respondents) and the most popular reason to outsource was to enable internal staff...
