Pharmaceutical and chemical group Altana AG posted a 25 percent gain in net income to [euro]251 million ($251 million) in the first nine months of the year as sales rose 13 percent to [euro]1.9 billion. Altana Pharma continued to be the growth driver of Altana Group, with sales rising 16 percent to nearly [euro]1.4 billion.

The principal force behind the success is the innovative gastrointestinal medication pantoprazole (Pantozol/Protonix). In the first three quarters, sales of [euro]1.5 billion were achieved together with its sales partners, corresponding to an increase of 49 percent over the year-ago period.
