Taiyo Vinyl to purchase Kureha's PVC unit. (News).(Brief Article)

TAIYO VINYL Corp., an affiliate of Tosoh Corp., has agreed to buy the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) business of Kureha Chemical Industry Co. The companies are not disclosing the financial terms of the deal, but expect to complete it on January 1, 2003. Kureha is withdrawing from the commercial PVC market in Japan, leaving just six producers.

Kureha has a PVC capacity of 100,000 metric tons. Under the companies' agreement, Taiyo will purchase the marketing rights for those PVC operations. Kureha projects that the conditions of the PVC market in Japan will limit the business's growth.
