ELI LILLY and Company has inked a long-term agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH (BI) to jointly commercialize duloxetine, a key player in Lilly's crowded pipeline. The pact, Lilly's first major copromotion deal for an in-house product, lays the groundwork for mining a potentially lucrative yet untapped market, stress urinary incontinence (SUI.) The deal also fortifies Lilly's footprint in Europe, which is somewhat weaker than its US competitors' and provides near-term earnings ahead of new product launches.
Analysts estimate duloxetine will reach sales of $1 billion by 2005. Lilly and BI will commercialize duloxetine to treat SUI on a worldwide basis, excluding Japan. Lilly filed duloxetine for SUI in the US in the fourth quarter of 2002. A...
