Senators propose new [CO.sub.2] emissions caps. (News).

SENATE CRITICS of the Bush administration's global warming policy are proposing legislation that would require US industries to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that many scientists have linked to a rise in the Earth's temperature. The measure, sponsored by US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.), would require energy, industrial and transportation sources of the six major greenhouse gases to cut back their emissions to 2000 levels by 2010 and to 1990 levels by 2016.
