LG Chem raises ABS capacity in China and Korea. (Breaking News: Roundup).(Brief Article)

Chemical Market Reporter, January, 2003

LG Chem Ltd. has raised its acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) capacity to 800,000 tons through expansions at its plants in China and Korea. The company says the expansions will make it the world's third largest producer of ABS.

Last month, LG Chem held a dedication ceremony for LG Yongxing Chemical Ltd., its expanded ABS facility in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China. That manufacturing affiliate will now be able to produce 300,000 tons of ABS per year, an increase of 150,000 tons. LG Chem originally planned to raise its ABS capacity in China to 300,000 tons by mid-2003, but it accelerated its start-up schedule because of rapid demand growth. The company expects the Chinese ABS market to grow at 8.2 percent per year until 2005.
