AN INDUSTRY group is calling on Congress to "stem the national energy crisis" by passing legislation that would lead to increased production of natural gas and lower prices for the key feedstock. In a letter to Congressional leaders, the Industrial Energy Consumers of America (IECA) notes that the US manufacturing sector has lost 2 million jobs since 1998, and the high cost of energy has been a major contributing factor.
"It is vital that Congress act quickly to stem the national energy crisis by enacting legislation that provides a robust, diverse and affordable supply of energy," wrote the IECA executive director Paul Cicio.
