JUST WEEKS after a deal with Bayer fell apart, Aventis announced last week that it has found another suitor for Aventis Behring, its therapeutic proteins business. The company says it is in preliminary discussions with the Australian biopharmaceuticals firm CSL Ltd. for the unit, which had sales of [euro] 1.129 billion ($1.21 billion) in 2001.

CSL reports that it has entered into a pact that allows the company to "appropriately and exclusively evaluate" the potential acquisition. CSL has identified human plasma products as a core business, says managing director Brian McNamee.
