Butadiene pricing climb continues. (Petrochemicals).

RUNAWAY FEEDSTOCK costs and continued supply difficulties are the main culprits behind the ongoing run-up in butadiene pricing, which has nearly doubled in the past year. A number of US producers remain on allocation, but the biggest push looks to be coming from crude oil and natural gas, which have skyrocketed.

Producers have launched a 2 cent increase that has been almost universally accepted throughout the industry. This will bring March contacts to 3 I cents per pound. Butadiene prices have increased almost 100 percent from last March when they were 16 cents. In addition, Equistar Chemicals LP has announced an energy surcharge that calls for a 9/10 of a cent increase on butadiene for every $1 per barrel the price of WTI (West Texas Intermediate) goes...
