Santiago, Chile-based Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile SA (SQM) will pay about $1.7 million to Canada's Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (PCS) for an irrevocable option to acquire PCS's interest in PCS Yumbes SCM. PCS Yumbes' main assets are potassium nitrate and iodine production in Taltal County, Chile.

The option must be exercised prior to January 13, 2004, and will be part of the $35 million price for PCS Yumbes.
