Genentech seeks early approval for oncology drug.(Life Sciences)

GENENTECH INC. is seeking early approval for its newest oncology product Avastin (bevacizumab) with its filing of a completed biologics license application with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week. The company is requesting priority review from the FDA to market Avastin for the treatment of first-line metastatic colorectal cancer.

With the filing, Genentech is gearing up to launch the product within the next six months, should the drug receive priority review, says a company official. "We will initially launch out of our South San Francisco manufacturing facility. Eventually, we will manufacture Avastin at both the South San Francisco site and our other facility in Vacaville, Calif.," the official adds.
