Computer crime easiest in small biz, Senate told.

WASHINGTON (FNS) -- Lack of funds, lack of technological sophistication and lack of precaution are increasing small business vulnerability to computer crime, private sector experts told the Senate, which is considering a House-passed measure aimed at such crime.

Rep. Ron Wyden (D., Ore.), a principal sponsor of the bill, contends that "computer fraud and abuse is a pervasive problem that can happen almost anywhere and any time. According to testimony we heard, it is going to get worse before it gets better."

He told the Senate Small Business Committee that thousands of small firms are choosing to use computers without adequate insight into their vulnerabilities and the steps that can be taken to protect computer data integrity.
