Mill Output for June Slightly Below May

Textile mill output was flat in May compared with the month before and fell slightly in June, according to the Federal Reserve.

Revised data released Friday also showed that mill output dropped 1.3 per cent in April, continuing a downward trend that began last October.

In last month's report, mill production was said to have posted a solid gain in April.

Output of textile mill products in May was only 1.4 per cent above the same month a year ago, according to the Federal Reserve's index of industrial production.

The textile materials category, which includes fabrics and yarn but not carpeting and other finished items, showed a 4.7 per cent year-over-year gain.
