Congress wants two resale price reports annually.

WASHINGTON (FNS) -- A congressional conference committee has instructed the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission to make special reports to Congress twice next year on their efforts to enforce the federal law on resale price maintenance (RPM).

Congress was pressured into requiring the resale price maintenance reports by discount retailing industry lobbyists hoping to goad the administration into more vigorous resale price maintenance enforcement. However, the instruction is not absolutely binding on the antitrust agencies because it is not contained in the appropriations law itself.
